Langston University Summer Transportation Institute Accepting Applications

The Langston University Summer Transportation Institute is now accepting applications for male and female counselor positions in the 2006 summer institute.
The institute is a highly supervised four-week residential program for students in grades 9 and 10. Students will stay at Langston University's Main Campus where they receive a well-rounded enrichment program. While at LU the students interact with faculty and staff, as well as professionals from land, air, water, and space transportation. They learn about careers in transportation; hone their math, communication, leadership, and computer skills, and participate in sports and recreation activities.
A student counselor is a staff member who assists the project staff and students with their work and is accountable to the project director. The counselor reports directly to the project director, assists instructors and others to distribute handouts and keep order in the classroom and on field trips. The counselor is also responsible for reporting all incidents to the project director, curriculum coordinator, project coordinator, or staff coordinator. Other duties include setting respectable personal standards assisting with check-in and check-out, promoting effective study and learning habits, chaperoning students during field trips, implementing university and institute policies, assisting the sports and recreation director, and performing other tasks as needed by the institute.
"We are looking for four hardworking individuals who will chaperone the students and assist them in their 'college' experience," said Dr. D. Chongo Mundende, director of the Summer Transportation Institute.
There are no formal application forms. Interested persons are advised to submit a letter of interest, an official academic transcript, two letters of recommendation, and resume. Applications should be submitted at the Agriculture Complex Building at the Main Campus to Sandra Wade-Penn or call 405-466-6167, or at LU-OKC campus located at 4205 N. Lincoln Blvd.; Applicants also can send forms to Dr. D. Chongo Mundende, Director -LUSTI, Langston University at OKC, 4205 N.
